The Shades of the Island of Paros 2017
Molyvos, in collaboration with Hellenic Wine World and Moraitis Estate, presents: The Shades of the Island of Paros 2017
Situated in the heart of the Aegean Sea, the island of Paros is a popular vacation destination. Although the development of the tourism industry threatens the island’s historic vineyards, Moraitis Estate continues to cultivate indigenous grape varieties using a combination of traditional vine-growing practices and modern winemaking techniques.
Founded in 1910, Moraitis Winery is now run by the third generation of the family, whose vision it is to continue the island’s rich wine-making traditions for many years to come.
Molyvos Wine Director Kamal Kouiri gives his recommendation of one white, one rosé, and one red wine from Moraitis Estate, along with his suggested pairings from the Molyvos’ menu.
2016, Monemvasia, Estate, Moraitis Winery
This white is bright gold and clear in color, with a bouquet of green apple and pineapple. It has medium acidity with compounding hints of lemon and mandarin. Its aftertaste is clean and fruity, and it has a crisp mineral finish.
Suggested pairing: Grilled Yellowfin Tuna – Roasted Jersey Corn and Grilled Summer Vegetable Salad
2016, Mavro Aidani, Moraitis Winery
Crisp and fresh, this rosé has clean, elegant flavors of strawberry, rhubarb, cherries and cranberries. It has savory notes of wild herbs and sea salt.
Suggested pairing: Ouzo Flamed Haloumi Cheese – Lemon Sauce
2012, Mandilaria-Monemvasia, Reserve, Moraitis Winery
Bright ruby in color, this red has a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit, warm spice, and a touch of vanilla. Its full-bodied taste has flavors of chocolate-covered black cherry and licorice with notes of candied plum and vanilla. It has a rich, smooth, round mouthfeel with a peppery aftertaste.
Suggested pairing: Lamb Shank Yuvetsi – Orzo, Tomatoes, Kefalotyri Cheese
