The Shades of Drama 2017

April 1 through April 30, Molyvos, in collaboration with Hellenic Wine World  and Ktima Pavlidis Estate, presents:  The Shades of Drama 2017

Spring has finally sprung! To start off the new season we’re showcasing three wines from the Ktima Pavlidis Estate. Founded in 1998 by Christoforos Pavlidis, this winery employs modern viticultural practices and state-of-the-art winemaking technology to ensure the perfect extraction of each grape’s aroma and flavor.

The northeastern region of Drama, located on the foothills of Mount Falakro has long been celebrated for its unique terroir. The soils of this region are diverse, ranging from the red clays of the lower foothills to the limestones found at higher altitudes. With two distinct vineyards in the towns of Kokkinogia and Perichora, Pavlidis Estate produces premium wines that reveal the unique flavor characteristics of this ancient winemaking region.

Molyvos Wine Director Kamal Kouiri gives his recommendation of one white, one rosé, and one red wine from Pavlidis Estate, along with his suggested pairing from Chef Carlos’ menu of classic Greek dishes.

 2016, Sauvignon Blanc-Assyrtiko, Thema

This intense white wine has aromas of exotic fruits with hints of citron and peach. Well-balanced and rich-flavored on the palate with pleasing freshness, this blend has a clean and fruity aftertaste with a crisp mineral finish.

Suggested pairing: Gulf Shrimp Saganaki  – Fennel, Tomato, Ouzo, Feta Cheese, Grilled Country Bread

2015, Tempranillo, Rosé, Thema

This rosé expresses elegant aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and wild roses. On the palate, there is a nicely balanced acidity full of sweetness. It has a long finish with a touch of ripe red fruit.

Suggested pairing: Pan Seared Red Snapper– Creamy Rice Pilaf, Rock Shrimp, Sweet Peas, Feta Cheese

2012, Agiorgitiko, Emphasis

This deep ruby red wine is in limited production, matured for 14 months in new oak casks. It has a rich cherry aroma, with notes of vanilla, cedarwood, and warm spices. Flavors of dark cherries, cassis, and licorice give it a full-bodied taste with excellent tannins and a long finish.

Suggested pairing: Lamb Shank Yuvetsi – Orzo, Tomatoes, Kefalotyri Cheese
